Having a security system for the home has become imperative for millions of people around the globe, and as long as you have a Mac computer, you can run full-time video surveillance with the SecuritySpy program.

Overview of SecuritySpy

Almost everyone with a computer these days has some sort of webcam, either an add-on model for their desktop or a built-in model in their laptop. Though for many Mac users, they're finding out that they can actually use their computer as a real-time security surveillance system, thanks to a program like SecuritySpy. This program allows you to strategically place cameras around certain areas you want to monitor, and then turn your desktop screen into a control center, so you can see everything that's going on. This program is quick to set up and relatively easy to use.

Unfortunately, the SecuritySpy system is only available as a trial version. So you can use a few of the features initially, but will have to buy the entire package for full functionality. It was created by Ben Software and is available for Mac, Mac OS X operating systems and later. The program's available language is English.

How SecuritySpy Works

Although this security system is a lot simpler to use than professional systems, it can still get a bit complex if you're unfamiliar. Of course, you're going to have to install cameras that sync up with your computer, so that's the first part. Then you will go to your opening program page and check how they're doing via the Camera Status section. After which, you move on to your preferences page, where you can set all your different preferences.

There are a lot of options here with your preferences, like the ability to auto-remove old recordings, remove old files, dismiss alert messages, display camera info (time stamps), display half-frame viewings, and a lot of other preferences.

SecuritySpy Features

One feature this system is actually missing, compared to professional features, is the ability to easily adjust your camera's positions remotely. You will have to do this manually. Though for cameras just watching your kids in their room, or focused on your porch and outside for security, or even in a business, they do a great job at recording. You can view them on-screen while files are being recorded. So make sure you have ample space.

Overall, however, you do get quite a few nifty features that will allow you to basically set up an entire control station on your Mac desktop. This can certainly come in handy for a small business or babysitting duties.
